Yesterday, Tom stripped the bunks out of one of the back rooms and thanks to my new friend "Ikea", I have a work table and chair. Here is a picture of my new office/sewing room. It's messy and I have lots of ideas for making it personal and functional but for now, you can see what I'm talking about. If you look closely, behind my computer you can catch a glimpse of my birthday present. A NEW SEWING MACHINE!!
Tom bought me a refurbished machine 20 years ago. I still use it at home, but it's a bit rebellious at times and decides not to do what I want, so I wanted a new one. I haven't plugged this one in yet, and I'm hoping it's not too complicated to learn to work, but it has 80 different stitches and all kinds of automatic threading/bobbin winding functions/button hole stuff, etc.. so I'm giddy with excitement over the prospect of playing with it!
The past two weeks have been incredibly busy but let me try to give a brief recap by photos.
On our travels to Florida, we stopped in Memphis, New Orleans, and Panama City Beach before arriving in Fort Lauderdale. These were all first time visits for me.
Memphis highlight...The Lorraine Motel...MLK was killed here in 1968. We stood in front of the exact spot where he was shot.
Thoughts on New Orleans...20 years ago, Bourbon street would really have impressed me, but no so much now. We did get a great PO'Boy sandwich there. We drove by several plantations dating back to the late 1700's and stopped off at St John the Baptist church and cemetery dating back to 1770. Those where very cool and if I go back to N.O., those are the places I'd really like to tour.

Our final stop was in Panama City Beach, FL. We planned on meeting up with some friends there that we had not seen in FOREVER!!! Oh, this was absolutely the best part of our trip. Truly. I found a small inn directly across the street from the beach. It was such a cute and quaint establishment, we will definitely return. The price was reasonable, and the best part.....ALL our pets were WELCOME!
We hit the beach straight away...just in time for an afternoon thunderstorm with lightning that scared the crap out of me! I mean, it literally shot out of blue sky! We ran for shelter, as I really didn't want to become another lightning strike statistic.
We met our friends (OH, Miranda....I'm so glad we got to see you guys!!!!) for a wonderful dinner at the Boar's Head restaurant, where I tried some fried alligator for the first time in my life. Tasty but a little chewy.
After dinner, we strolled with our friends along the beach and hit a novelty shop before heading back to our room for the night.

We got home Friday eve, and spent a wonderful fourth of July with some friends on the beach. BBQ, margaritas, beach, fireworks, and friends....it just doesn't get any better than that! Oh, it sure is a WONDERFUL LIFE!
